Ye Scallywag, 2017 Recap

Saturday October 21st marked the return of one of my favorite events, Ye Scallywag, an all day fest featuring beer, food, and punk rock music.  Whenever an event is a huge success, it leaves one to wonder, will it be just as awesome the next time?  Ye Scallywag's second year definitely did not disappoint.  Held again at the picture perfect Waterfront Park, located adjacent to the San Diego Bay, the idyllic setting was a perfect backdrop to a fun-filled afternoon.

Eager crowd!

Over the course of the afternoon, into the evening, an epic lineup of rad musicians took the stage in front of festival attendees.  This year's lineup at Ye Scallywag included Western Settings, the Adolescents, Strung Out, Lagwagon, the Vandals, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, along with Pennywise.

Along with an outstanding lineup of music, setting, and venue, once again this year, there was a fantastic selection of beers and food to choose from throughout Ye Scallywag.
While having a large selection of beers to choose from is always a good thing, the lineup of music was just as great, and probably the main reason most people chose to attend the fest.

Thanks to Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE), Brew Ha Ha Productions, and my favorite radio station, 91X for putting together another epic event. I'm already excited for next year's Ye Scallywag!

Mickey's Halloween Party

Disneyland and Halloween are two of my favorite things.  Visiting Disneyland during Halloweentime is always something I look forward to each year.  This year, I decided to attend one of the special ticketed Mickey's Halloween Parties.  I've always been a bit reluctant to attend, because as a Disneyland Annual Passholder, I already pay a nice sum of money each month to have the opportunity to visit the Happiest Place on Earth.  Why would I want to purchase a separate ticket for an after hours event?  Well, for starters, they have special Halloween themed fireworks.  Back in 2009, before Disneyland offered the Mickey's Halloween Party, for a very brief period of time, the Halloween themed fireworks were able to be seen by those in attendance during regular admission times.  Since 2010, though, the Halloween Screams fireworks are only able to be viewed during Mickey's Halloween Parties.

Spooky Halloween projections on buildings on Main Street U.S.A.
When first entering the event, it was quite crowded with non-party attendees as well as party attendees near the front entrance to Disneyland.  For guests attending Mickey's Halloween Party, they are able to arrive before the actual start time to the party, which is nice for those who are not frequent visitors to Disneyland.  Each party attendee receives a tiny bag to hold candy, although you can also bring one from home if you'd like to try to get your money's worth of candy.

Characters on floats on the Rivers of America
The decorations and Halloween themed music are a nice enhancement to the regular Halloweentime decorations throughout Disneyland.  The treat stations are located in various areas throughout different lands in Disneyland.  We visited the treat stations on Main Street USA, the Golden Horseshoe, the Rivers of America, as well as those located near the Hungry Bear restaurant.  I think the only way you would be able to visit all of the treat stations were if you arrived early, although, I don't know how you would also manage to visit any of the attractions.  The only attraction I wanted to visit while there for Mickey's Halloween Party was the Haunted Mansion Holiday.  Although the Haunted Mansion has been decorated by Jack Skellington since September, the wait times whenever I have visited have been close to two hours.
During Mickey's Halloween Party, we only had to wait for twenty minutes, which was a definite treat.

We had decided that viewing the earlier showing of the Frightfully Fun Parade, which runs both before and after the Halloween Screams fireworks, would make the most sense since I attended a party on a Tuesday night.
I wasn't quite sure where the best view of the parade would be, and decided on trying to view it from the left side of the castle.
Our view of the fireworks was okay, I could see some of the castle projections, but not all of them.
I really liked the Halloween Screams fireworks.
I just didn't like how it was a bit disorganized for where to sit and/or stand for the fireworks.

Which leaves me with the question, was it worth it to attend Mickey's Halloween Party?  Will I attend Mickey's Halloween Party in the future?  I really don't think the price of the ticket was worth all of the offerings of the party.  I also felt that the fireworks viewing area could have been better organized.

The Halloween Tree in Frontierland
But, I love Halloweentime at Disneyland.  So, I imagine, in a few years, I will be back for another Mickey's Halloween Party.  If I do go again, though, I will make sure to purchase tickets for a Friday night rather than a Tuesday evening.

8th Annual OC Brew Ha Ha Recap

This past Saturday, September 23rd, one of my most favorite beer festivals of the year took place, the Brew Ha Ha.  This year was the eighth year the Brew Ha Ha has taken place, which is quite the feat!  Brew Ha Ha once again this year took place in the beautiful Oak Canyon Park.  This is one of my most favorite venues for a beer festival, because it seems as if you are far outside of a major metropolitan area, when you are actually near major freeways.

This year, unlike in years past, the Brew Ha Ha was held on a day when the weather was amazingly gorgeous.  It was a beautiful day, and it wasn't too hot, which is not usually the case.  This helped to make the Brew Ha Ha even more awesome than usual!

Cheers to awesome beers and weather!
Some of my favorite beers of the day were from both well established as well as newer breweries.  Among my favorite beers of the day were Brewery Rex's Stay Wit, Ritual Brewing Company's Funner IPA, and Tustin Brewing Company's Kentucky Hug.

New for this year's Brew Ha Ha was a Rare Beer Section.  This area had exclusive beers available throughout the event for festival attendees who had selected the Rare Beer option for admission.  Some of the beers in the Rare Beer Section, such as Tustin Brewing Company's Kentucky Hug, were also available to all attendees in the General Admission area of the event, but, it was only available for a select time, whereas in the Rare Beer Section it was available throughout the event with no line.

Rare Beer Section, where everyone was smiling at drinking rare beers!

As usual, there was a wide variety of food options available at Brew Ha Ha provided by local food truck and restaurant booths.  There were also games available throughout Oak Canyon Park for festival attendees to partake in as well as live music.  Having food, games, and music helps to make sure that attendees are able to take breaks from trying all of the tasty beers throughout the event.

This year's live music entertainment was provided by The Spazmatics, which were awesome!  I had never heard them perform before, and was so excited to hear them play covers of some of my favorite 80s songs.

As usual, the organizers of Brew Ha Ha provided a fun filled afternoon.  I always look forward to attending events put on by Brew Ha Ha Productions.  I can't wait until their next event!

Cheers to another amazing Brew Ha Ha!

4th Annual Brew Hee Haw Craft Beer Roundup Recap

A visit to the fair is an essential part of my summer.  I always look forward to all of the sights, sounds, and unique food items that are offered every year. This year, I was able to attend the 4th Annual Brew Hee Haw Craft Beer Roundup.  This was my first time attending the Brew Hee Haw, which is an event that is produced by Brew Ha Ha Productions.  I always have a fun time at Brew Ha Ha events, spending time with friends, while enjoying a wide variety of delicious beers.

The Brew Hee Haw is unique because it is set inside of another annual event, the OC Fair. The OC Fair and Brew Hee Haw go together perfectly.  Brew Hee Haw attendees are able to attend the event, and enjoy the fair afterwards.  The area where the Brew Hee Haw is held is underneath a large tent, which makes it easy to enjoy a beautiful Southern California summer day.  The event had a great mix of people, and never felt that it was too crowded.

Attendees were able to easily go from booth to booth and sample beers.  The dj that was at the opposite end of the entrance played a wide variety of music, which helped to add to everyone's enjoyment throughout the afternoon.  The relaxed environment and manageable crowds made it easy for attendees to enjoy themselves throughout the four hour event.
I had a fantastic time at the Brew Hee Haw and look forward to attending next year!
