It's ultra-appropriate that we're reconnecting with our friends at 91X91X was there for us at the earliest stages of our career, and it's bad ass that we can party with them now! Ye Scallywag, 2017 Recap

Saturday October 21st marked the return of one of my favorite events, Ye Scallywag, an all day fest featuring beer, food, and punk rock music.  Whenever an event is a huge success, it leaves one to wonder, will it be just as awesome the next time?  Ye Scallywag's second year definitely did not disappoint.  Held again at the picture perfect Waterfront Park, located adjacent to the San Diego Bay, the idyllic setting was a perfect backdrop to a fun-filled afternoon.

Eager crowd!

Over the course of the afternoon, into the evening, an epic lineup of rad musicians took the stage in front of festival attendees.  This year's lineup at Ye Scallywag included Western Settings, the Adolescents, Strung Out, Lagwagon, the Vandals, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, along with Pennywise.

Along with an outstanding lineup of music, setting, and venue, once again this year, there was a fantastic selection of beers and food to choose from throughout Ye Scallywag.
While having a large selection of beers to choose from is always a good thing, the lineup of music was just as great, and probably the main reason most people chose to attend the fest.

Ye Scallywag Recap

Beer + Live Music + San Diego = an EPIC day.

Saturday October 21st marked the debut of the inaugural Ye Scallywag fest which featured beer, wine, food, and music.
Ever since I first heard whisperings about Ye Scallywag, I have been beyond excited.

As a native San Diegan, I knew the venue for the event, the Waterfront Park, would be a picture perfect setting.  Who wouldn't want to spend the day soaking up some California sunshine near the Pacific Ocean?

Throughout the day, live music was performed by an outstanding lineup which appealed to a wide variety of musical tastes. From up and coming bands such as the Bombpops and Wakrat, to legendary bands such as Reel Big Fish, Against Me!, Goldfinger, Bad Religion, and NOFX.

Against Me!

NOFX

Goldfinger

Goldfinger and Reel Big Fish

Bad Religion
Besides the amazing music, setting, and venue there were also an abundance of beers, wine, and food to sample throughout the event. A wide variety of vendors also had booths set up selling merchandise.

Cheers!

While I love beer, the highlight for me were the bands that performed throughout the day. I've had the opportunity to see many of the bands who played previously, and was not disappointed. Each of the bands had a tremendous amount of energy and genuinely appeared to be having just as much fun, if not a bit more, than the eager crowds gathered in the area near the stage.

Thanks to Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE), Brew Ha Ha Productions, and radio stations 91X and KFM-BFM for putting together an epic day.  I am already looking forward to next year's Ye Scallywag!

Ye Scallywag

I am SO excited for this year's debut of Ye Scallywag!, a day-long music, craft beer, wine, and food festival, to take place on Saturday October, 22nd at Waterfront Park in San Diego, CA.  Produced by premier musical festival production company Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE), Orange County, California's most successful and respected craft beer festival producer Brew Ha Ha Productions, San Diego's leading alternative radio station 91X, and California's top rock radio station KFM-BFM, the festival will feature over 100 craft breweries and artisan wineries, along with a full day of music led by NOFX and Bad Religion.

"Scallywag! will be unlike any legitimate craft beer or wine event ever produced," says Ye Scallywag! co-producer Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions.  "We are bringing in some of the most sought after and award winning breweries in the country as well as some incredible wineries from Paso Robles, the Napa Valley, Central Coast and beyond all set to the music of artists like Bad Religion.  We've really got something special here!"

91X's Halloran adds, "Ye Scallywag! will be the perfect San Diego event to make one truly grateful for this wondrous California lifestyle.  The craftiness of the beer, wine, food and bands will prove that indeed, San Diego has the best.  I am looking forward to an amazing day."

Fat Mike of musical headliner NOFX says, "When I started NOFX in 1983 I dreamed of being a scallywag one day, at least by the time I was 50.  Well, not only am I a scallywag, but I'm also playing the Scallywag Festval!
P.S. What's a scallywag? Is that like being a pirate?"

Some of the breweries participating include: Left Coast Brewing, Mikkeller SD, Modern Times, Coronado Brewing, Fall Brewing, Good Beer Co, Figueroa Mountain Brewing, Ska Brewing, Artifex Brewing, Bottle Logic, Burning Beard, Chapman Brewing, Bootleggers Brewing, 101 Ciderhouse and many more!

I know where I'll be on October 22nd, what about you?  Tickets are available while supplies last here.

September Adventures 9/22-9/29

Sometimes, the best weeks have a really great single day.  That was the case this past week!  While visiting Disneyland is always a great addition to any week, the highlight of last week was visiting San Diego.  While in San Diego, I went to several new to me places.  One of the new to me places I visited was Brabant which hosted a special event for the Pink Boots Society and Beer for Boobs.  Delirium Tremens sent a rare keg of the beer Deliria, a beer brewed exclusively by the professional women brewers of Belgium!  I was happy I could try a unique beer, especially because it helped to support two great causes.  I also went to Fathom, which is a teeny tiny bait and tackle shop, which also happens to have a rad selection of craft beer and great food too!  How often can you say that you've had Pliny the Elder along with lumpia while sitting on a pier?  Even more awesome is that fact that Fathom is across the street from Humphreys, which is where the Pixies were playing on Saturday night.  Saturday ended up being an epic day, to say the least.

Matterhorn, Disneyland
Oogie Boogie, Disneyland
Haunted Mansion Holiday, Disneyland
Small Bar, San Diego
Deliria at Brabant, San Diego
Pliny the Elder at Fathom, San Diego
Reasonable beer prices at a concert!

The Pixies put on one of the best shows, ever.

August Adventures, 8/24-8/31

This past week ended with a trip to my favorite city, San Diego.  I went to a few of my favorite places and also finally visited Blind Lady Ale House for the first time.  Along with an amazing selection of craft beer, Blind Lady Ale House also has yummy food and a relaxing atmosphere.  I don't know why it took me so long to go to Blind Lady Ale House, but it is now on my list of favorite places in San Diego!

Sanfilippo's is my favorite Italian restaurant, I love that it is family owned!
Hop-Fu! IPA, Julian Shrago and Kelsey McNair's Pro-Am GABF entry, absolutely amazing flavors, so glad I got to try this beer!
"She brings me Mexican food from Sombrero, just because..."

Music, Firestone Walker's 805, and swimming makes for a perfect day!

Swimming is fun with Founder's Brewing All Day IPA!

My town, my street...

El Cajon Brewing Co.

Last week I was able to spend time in my hometown, San Diego.  While I grew up in one of the craft beer meccas, I never have spent much time drinking or trying beer in the area.  We decided to visit four breweries, all within a short drive of each other.

Cauldron Crest Pils and Amaziah Red Ale

Our first stop was El Cajon Brewing Company.  Although the list of guest breweries on tap was substantial, I was disappointed there were only two beers brewed by El Cajon on tap.  I tried both the Cauldron Crest Pils and Amaziah Red Ale which were both easy to drink and perfect for a hot afternoon, which are common in East County!

Green Flash Brewing Company

Next up was my favorite brewery of the day, Green Flash Brewing Company.  All I could say as we entered the facility was, "Wow, this place is AMAZING!!!"  It is a huge area which has all the elements of their brewery from brewing to bottling along with an area to taste some of their freshly made beer.

Green Flash Retro XPA
I loved the openness of the building as well as the separate area for merchandise and growler fills.  I can see how this space, although  larger than average can quickly fill up with eager beer drinkers!  There were tours available, but we decided just to have some smaller sized samples.  I really liked that they had petite tasters, as we had previously tried many of their beers on other occasions.  I decided to try the Green Flash Retro XPA which was outstanding.  I love how Green Flash consistently creates great beer.

Ballast Point Brewing Co

After our small samples of beers, we headed to stop number three, Ballast Point Brewing Company.  Although there was a good sized crowd when we arrived, we were served quickly after our arrival. As with Green Flash, I'd had many of the beers that were on tap and was wanting to try something new.

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA with and without ginger

After looking over the tap list carefully, I decided to do a side by side comparison of the two versions of the Big Eye IPA one with and one without ginger.  While both beers are very tasty, I preferred the non-ginger version.  After a short time, we decided to continue on to our fourth and final stop of the day, Manzanita Brewing Company.

Manzanita Brewing Company flight of beers
Ever since I first learned there is a brewery located near where I grew up, I've been eager to try their beer.  Manzanita Brewing Company, located in Santee, is near the 52 freeway in East County.  Their small tasting room was filled with regulars who were both helpful and eager to talk about their local brewery.  We decided to get a tasting flight of all of the beers.  My two favorites were the IPA and Pale Ale.  While we were visiting the tasting room, we found out that the brewery is moving just down the street.  It is always exciting to hear about breweries who are expanding.  I can't wait to visit more breweries in San Diego!
