4th Annual Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival

                   

I am SO excited that one of my most favorite events of the year, Sabroso, is almost here!  Sabroso has been an annual event since 2014, you can read my recaps for 2014, 2015, and 2016.  I'm even more excited, because of some RAD changes that will be coming to Sabroso this year.  KLOS presents the fourth annual Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco, & Music Festival powered by Gringo Bandito and it will be held at an all-new location, Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA on Saturday, April 8th from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. (VIP opens an hour earlier at noon).  This year's event will once again be produced by California's most successful and respected craft beer festival producer, Brew Ha Ha Productions and premier music festival production company Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE), KLOS presents Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco, & Music Festival will feature live music, lucha libre style wrestling by World Power Wrestling (WPW), games, contests, complimentary craft beer tastings (until 4:00 p.m.) from some of the best breweries in the country, and $3 tasty gourmet tacos from the region's top chefs and restaurants.  

Sabroso will feature a music lineup headlined by Orange County-based, multi-platinum rock band The Offspring, along with performances from Sum 41, Rival Sons, Lit, Unwritten Law, and the world's first and only heavy metal mariachi band, Metalachi, as well as roving performances by local mariachi bands.

Dexter Holland of The Offspring is looking forward to joining in this ultimate taco fest and comments, “We love tacos, the beach AND beer, so it sounds like a perfect day for The Offspring.”

Sabroso co-producer Cameron Collins of Brew Ha Ha Productions explains, “Sabroso is one of my favorite events that we produce, and Doheny State Beach is exactly the kind of setting I imagined when we started in 2014. Much of the event will remain the same. What’s new for 2017, though, are the extended hours and the killer bands performing on our main stage. Having one of OC’s favorite exports, The Offspring, perform at Sabroso could not be more perfect! Attendees are in for a day they will never forget!”

Throughout the festival, taco lovers can indulge in $3 gourmet tacos from top local chefs and restaurants. These titans of taco creations will all compete for the coveted Sabroso “People’s Choice” awards, as selected by attendees via Text-To-Vote. “Best Of Show” will be awarded by a panel of highly acclaimed and pre-selected food judges. Many taco experts are expected to participate, including these past Sabroso “People’s Choice” and “Best Of Show” winners returning to defend and reclaim their titles: Chef Jimmy Martinez from Pour Vida - Anaheim, Chef Cody Storts from Salt and Ash – Placentia, Chef Rashad Moumneh from Falasophy - Santa Ana, Luis Flores of Meat Up BBQ - Placentia, and Chef Hop Phan from Dos Chinos - Santa Ana, just to name a few. Other local favorites include Chef Greg Daniels from Haven Gastropub, the Ninjas With Appetite Truck (N.W.A. Truck), Devilicious Truck, LIME Truck, Stadium Brewing Co., The Kroft, Chronic Tacos, and many more.

Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival will feature renowned craft breweries including Bottle Logic, Bootleggers, Riip Brewing, Pizza Port, TAPS Fish House and Brewery, Stereo Brewing, Fall Brewing, Barley Forge, Ritual Brewing, Modern Times, Artifex Brewing and more.

Attendees are also invited to sample all flavors of Gringo Bandito, Dexter Holland of The Offspring’s top rated hot sauce during the event.

In addition to live music, tacos and craft beer offerings, Sabroso attendees will be entertained by lucha libre style wrestlers like Red Spider, La Golosa, Lady Lee and Mariachi Loco, who will take to the ring for four action packed qualifying matches, followed by a championship match.

Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival runs from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Saturday, April 8, with VIP entry beginning at noon for an extra hour of complimentary exclusive tastings in the VIP lounge. The festival is open to those 21 and up. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to roam throughout the lush grass areas of Doheny State Beach, right off the shore of the Pacific Ocean, touching the sand.

3rd Annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival Recap

This past Saturday, I was able to attend the 3rd Annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival.  Sabroso has quickly become one of my favorite events to attend each year, and I always look forward to attending.  The folks at OC Brew Ha Ha proved once again that they really know how to throw an epic event.  I've been fortunate to attend Sabroso every year that it has been held, you can read my previous recaps here and here.

This year's Sabroso had the same elements as in previous years, yummy tacos from local restaurants and food trucks, a great selection of beer, and lucha libre.  This year saw the offerings expand again, just as they did last year.  This year the actual area the fest was held in had more area for attendees to explore, which was awesome to see.  Another new feature for this year's Sabroso was the addition of a free shuttle option after the event ended.  Attendees who chose to arrive using an alternate form of transportation were encouraged to utilize a free shuttle.  I think this is a fantastic way to encourage responsible drinking.

Sabroso was held in the same picturesque location as in the past two years.  I love that although it feels as if you are far away from any major metropolitan area, you actually are not far from major freeways in Orange County.  By having the Sabroso event in a park setting, attendees are able to enjoy their day of drinking, eating tacos, listening to live music and of course cheering on the luchadores.  An upper level, which was expanded this year, is also where the food booths/trucks were located.  

As in the past two years, the mid and lower levels are where the majority of the breweries were pouring beer as well as a stage with live music, along with the wrestling ring.  The breweries that attended Sabroso helped to provide a wide variety of beers which would appeal to a wide range of beer drinkers.  Of course, as in past year's, my favorite part of the Sabroso was the lucha libre.  Tacos, beer, live music, and wrestling, what's not to love?  I can't wait for next year's Sabroso!

3rd Annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival

I am so excited that one of my favorite events of the year is nearly upon us!  Since 2014, the masterminds behind OC Brew Ha Ha have put together an epic event which combines amazing beer, tacos, live music, and luchadores!  You can read about my experiences at Sabroso in 2014 and 2015.

This year's third annual Sabroso Craft Beer & Taco Festival will once again be held at the picturesque Lake View Park near Irvine Lake.  I love this venue, because it is close enough to the major freeways in the area, yet far enough out of the way to make it feel as if you are not near a major metro area, like Orange County.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 30th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m..  There will be a wide variety of unlimited tastings of over 100 craft beers as well as the opportunity to purchase $3 gourmet tacos from some of the best chefs and restaurants in Orange County.  The chefs and restaurants will all be competing for the coveted People's Choice awards, so these tacos will not be your average ones.

Along with beer and tacos, Sabroso also offers great entertainment such as live music and Lucha Libre wrestling.  The wrestling is always one of my favorite parts of the events for me!

New for this year's event is that Sabroso is offering free shuttle service from the event to the Tustin Market Place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..  This service is being offered to help improve the experience for guests who take alternative transportation to the event.  While it isn't a problem to take alternative transportation modes TO the event, afterwards it is very difficult for drivers to pick up guests.  The shuttles will take guests who did not drive to Sabroso to an area where it will be much easier to get a ride from a Lyft, Uber, taxi, etc..

The shuttle is a free service.  Donations are welcome for the service, 100% of the donations will go to Sabroso's charity partner, the Big Brothers and Sisters of Orange County and Inland Empire.

Tickets for Sabroso are $55 online in advance.  If the event does not sell out prior, tickets will be available at the door the day of the event for $55.  Designated Driver tickets will be available for $20 at the door only and must be accompanied by a paid ticket holder.  No one will be admitted who is under 21 years of age.

2nd Annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival Recap

Have you ever been to an amazing event, and looked forward to attending it the next year? That's how I feel about every event that is put on by the folks at OC Brew Ha Ha.  Last year was the first year of Sabroso and I had such a great time!  You can read about my recap from last year here.

This year's event, held this past Saturday, had the same elements as last year, tacos from local restaurants and food trucks, a great variety of beer, and wrestling.  Of course, this year, though, there were more taco choices, more breweries pouring beer, and more wrestling matches.  Just like last year, there was a competition among the restaurants and food trucks who made tacos.  This year's winner of the taco competition was Dos Chinos.

Sabroso was held in the same location as last year, which is adjacent to major freeways in Orange County, but feels as if you are hours away from any major metropolitan area.  I love this about both Sabroso and Brew Ha Ha.  It makes the event feel a bit more relaxed since it is held in a park setting filled with trees and next to a lake.  The venue has an upper level, which is where you enter the event and where the food booths/trucks were located.  Various vendors were also on hand, such as Craftbeerd, which sells some of my favorite beer related t-shirts and artwork.  

The mid and lower levels are where the majority of the breweries were located as well as a stage with live music and the wrestling ring.  The variety of breweries at the event allowed both novice and more seasoned beer drinkers to be able to find something that would interest them throughout the day.  

Although it was a warm day, the ample shade provided by both the large shade trees, canopies at each brewery's station, and expansive seating area on the upper level helped to ensure festival attendees would not swelter too much.  In addition to extra wrestling matches this year, two local breweries also had a match up in tag team wrestling.  Bottle Logic Brewing and Noble Ale Works decided to take their local friendly competition into the wrestling ring.  The Bottle Logic Brewing and Noble Ale Works match was talked about throughout the day.  "Are they really in a fight?  Have you seen their instagram posts?  I heard that they don't like each other!  I wonder who's going to win?"  In the end, the match which had wrestlers wrestle on behalf of both breweries ended up in a draw.  After the end of the match, it was announced that Bottle Logic Brewing and Noble Ale Works will be working on a collaboration beer.  This was such a great way to announce a collaboration beer!
I had so much fun at Sabroso this year and can't wait for next year's festivities!

2nd Annual Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival

Last year, the folks behind one of my favorite events, OC Brew Ha Ha, hosted the inaugural Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival.  This year, the event is back to coincide with Cinco de Mayo!  I had so much fun last year, if you want to read about it, here is my write up from last year.
I'm sure that the event will be even more fun than last year since it seems that every event that the OC Brew Ha Ha team puts together just gets better with each year!
Once again, the Sabroso Craft Beer & Taco Festival will be held at Oak Canyon Park in Silverado.  I love this venue, because it is close enough to major freeways, yet far enough out of the way to make it feel as if you are not near a major metro area, like Orange County.

Sabroso will take place on Saturday, May 2nd from noon to 4 p.m..  Entrance to Sabroso will include unlimited tastings of over sixty beers as well as $3 tacos for purchase from a variety of outstanding local restaurants.

Featured chefs who will be preparing tasty tacos include Greg Daniels of Haven Gastropub, Cody Storts of GRITS, Hop Phan of Dos Chinos Food Truck, as well as the award-winning culinary team from Taps Fish House.

The El Smoko Loco Cigar Lounge "Presented by Gray Cloud" will offer cigar conniesurs an opportunity to enjoy themselves during the fun-filled afternoon.

I highly recommend attending Sabroso as it is a great bargain for all that it offers!  Tickets to Sabroso are $55 in advance.  In the event that tickets are still available the day of the event, tickets will be $65 at the door.  For those who are interested in purchasing a designated driver ticket, those are available with the purchase of a regular event ticket.  Tickets for Sabroso Craft Beer & Taco Festival are available for purchase online here.

Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival

Yesterday went from being disappointing to amazing thanks to some of my rad friends.  I woke up in the morning with plans to head down to San Diego, but those plans quickly changed to going to a craft beer event here in Orange County instead.  The folks of OC Brew Ha Ha held their inaugural Sabroso Craft Beer and Taco Festival, which was amazing!  The event was located at the picturesque Lake View Park in Silverado, just adjacent to the venue of the OC Brew Ha Ha. The Lake View Park venue is a fantastic venue!  Even though yesterday was a warm day, the trees and misters located throughout the park helped make the heat less noticeable.

Over sixty breweries attended with many pouring beers that were created specifically for Sabroso.  Bottle Logic Brewing was one of the breweries that brought a special beer for the day, Leche Borracho which was one of my favorite beers of the day.  Besides beer, of course there were tacos available from a variety of food vendors.  From octopus, to Spam tacos, there was something for nearly everyone's tastes!  During the event, judges sampled the tacos and Hopscotch was awarded first place for their lamb al pastor taco at the end of the afternoon.

My favorite part of the day, besides the beer was the lucha libre!  The luchadores were full of energy interacting with the crowd and were so much fun to watch.  Several match ups occurred during the day and the wrestling ring was centrally located in the event so it was easy to catch the action no matter where you were standing.

I can't wait until the next event put on by OC Brew Ha Ha, they definitely know how to make sure that people have a fantastic time at all of their events!  You can tell that they put a lot of thought into their events, as they are always well organized and fun to attend.
